Don't Despair--Don't Compare!
Don't Despair--Don't Compare!
When you're looking for a job, it's only natural to compare yourself to successful friends or other, seemingly more talented job seekers. Rage against this counterproductive behavior--and focus on what YOU have to offer the employer.

Q&A: Which is more important: your college major or your skills?

An employer survey from the Association of American Colleges and Universities strongly suggests that the major you graduate with isn't as important as being broadly educated:

93% said that a demonstrated capacity to think critically, communicate clearly and solve complex problems is more important than your degree.

95% say they prioritize hiring candidates with skills that will help them contribute to innovation in the workplace.

95% say it is important that new hires demonstrate ethical judgment and integrity, intercultural skills and the capacity for continued new learning.

Interviewing Tip of the Month: "December is a bad time of year to land an interview, right?"
Not necessarily. Lots of employers are actively interviewing right now, looking for new employees to start in early January. If you're not getting called for interviews, try scheduling informational interviews on your own. They're a great way to introduce yourself (and sell your value) to potential employers, broaden your network and learn more about a company.
